(Dan Tri) – Many Myanmar families are facing an uncertain future after finding a way to India to avoid violence since the February 1 mutiny.

Recounting her journey to find a way to escape the mutiny in her homeland, a 36-year-old Myanmar woman said she was discovered by the police when she was about to set foot on the Indian border.

Even though they were in a hurry, they were still very cautious so as not to be discovered and also because she was 6 months pregnant and her husband was a police officer who quit the profession after recent clashes between Myanmar security forces and protesters.

`They chased us all over the city. When we were about to cross the Indian border, the Myanmar police chased us right behind,` she said.

The woman’s family are just three of hundreds of Myanmar citizens, including police officers and government officials, who have fled to Mizoram since the February 1 mutiny.

`Technically speaking, we cannot deport them back to Myanmar… They are not criminals,` said a Mizoram state official.

Up to now, the Indian government has not publicly announced the handling measures for Myanmar citizens who cross the border in the near future nor whether they will respond to the request of Myanmar officials to expel the police officers who fled.

Her family currently lives in a room at a temporary camp.

`Even though their bodies are in Mizoram, their minds are still in Myanmar, they don’t feel completely relaxed. They still think about their homes, fields, estates and relatives,` said an activist.

Myanmar has continued to sink deeper into crisis since the military overthrew the civilian government and took control of the country on February 1.
